Details

Contaminants such as oils and lotions, together with the circulation systems of a hot tub or spa can lead to the creation of unsightly foam on the water surface.

This antifoam is an inert silicon based liquid that can be added directly to the foaming area to help reduce and prevent it.

Product Benefits

Prevents Foaming

  • Primary Benefit: Antifoam products are designed to prevent and eliminate foam in the water, which can be caused by various contaminants like body oils, lotions, soaps, hair products, and detergents. Without it, foam can become a nuisance, affecting the clarity and aesthetics of the water.

  • Why It's Important: Excessive foam can detract from the relaxation experience and make the water look dirty, even when it's clean.

Improves Water Clarity

  • Clarity: Foam can cloud the water, making it appear murky. Using an antifoam product keeps the water looking crystal clear by breaking down the bubbles and preventing foam formation.

  • Why It's Important: Clear water is not only more visually appealing but also makes it easier to spot any actual debris or contamination in the water.

Reduces Chemical Build-up

  • Less Foam, Less Chemical Build-Up: Over time, foam can accumulate contaminants in your hot tub's water, leading to an excess build-up of chemicals and debris in the water.

  • Why It's Important: Reducing foam can help reduce the overall chemical load in your hot tub, making it easier to maintain a balanced water chemistry.

Prolongs Equipment Life

  • Protecting Filters & Jets: Foam can clog up hot tub filters and jets, which can reduce the efficiency of the system and put extra strain on the equipment. By preventing foam, antifoam products can help maintain the performance of your hot tub’s filtration system.

  • Why It's Important: Keeping filters and jets clear improves the longevity of your hot tub equipment and reduces maintenance costs.

Easy to Use

    • Convenience: Antifoam products are usually quick and easy to use—just a few drops or ounces into the water is all it takes to neutralize foaming. This makes it a convenient solution to a common problem.

    • Why It's Important: The ease of use ensures that maintaining your hot tub is as hassle-free as possible, saving you time and effort.

Safety & Use

Chemical Data Sheet

Instructions

  • Turn on your pump
Before adding antifoam, ensure your spa’s circulation pump is running. This helps distribute the product across the surface.

  • Identify the foam area
Target the parts of the water surface where the foam is most concentrated.

  • Measure the dose
For this antifoam, use 50 ml per treatment, applying it directly into the foamy area.

  • Apply the product
Pour the 50 ml slowly into the foaming zone, letting the circulation help spread it.

  • Wait a short while
Keep the pump running and allow a few minutes for the antifoam to work (the foam should reduce noticeably).

  • Repeat only if needed
Use additional doses only if foam persists — over‑dosing might not help. (Many antifoam products only temporarily neutralise foaming agents.

Storage and Handling

  • Follow manufacturer guidelines: Always check the specific instructions and guidelines on the label of your antifoam product, as some formulas may have specific directions.

  • Do not mix with other chemicals: Avoid mixing antifoam with other chemicals unless instructed to do so, as this can cause unpredictable reactions.

  • Skin and eye contact: Always handle antifoam products carefully and avoid direct contact with eyes or skin. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.

FAQs

What is Antifoam?

Antifoam (or foam remover) is a chemical treatment designed to break down and eliminate foam in hot tubs, spas, and pools. It works by reducing the surface tension of the small bubbles that cause foam, causing them to collapse

Why does foam form in my hot tub?
  • Body oils, lotions, shampoo, deodorant, and cosmetics transferred from bathers

  • Detergents or soap residues on swimwear or in the water

  • High total dissolved solids or organic contaminants in the water

  • Incorrect water balance (e.g., very low hardness) can also exacerbate foaming

How do I use Antifoam?

How often should I use Antifoam?

Use it only when needed. Ideally:

  • When foam appears on the water surface

  • After heavy use, when more body oils / lotions / contaminants may have built up

  • As a “just-in-case” treatment—don’t rely on it constantly without addressing root causes

Is Antifoam safe for my hot tub and water chemistry?

Yes - most antifoam products are silicone-based and inert, meaning they break foam without significantly impacting pH, sanitizer levels, or other water chemistry.

However, you should:

  • Avoid overdosing (“use as needed”)

  • Make sure filters are clean so foam-causing contaminants can be removed efficiently

Can adjusting water chemistry help reduce foam?
  • Maintain proper total hardness, as very low hardness can contribute to foam.
  • Make sure pH and alkalinity are balanced.

  • Encourage users to shower before entering the spa to reduce introduction of oils and detergent.

  • Clean filters regularly: dirty filters can cause buildup that contributes to foam.

Is it safe to use Antifoam with chlorine or bromine?

Yes - antifoam is generally compatible with common spa sanitizers when used correctly.
Just make sure not to add concentrated or incompatible chemicals at the same time — always follow label instructions.

How should I store Antifoam?
  • Keep in a cool, dry place

  • Store with the lid tightly closed

  • Keep out of reach of children and pets

  • Avoid freezing / very high heat where possible
