Details

pH Plus for hot tubs is a chemical solution designed to safely raise the pH levels in your spa or hot tub water when they become too low. Maintaining proper pH balance is crucial for ensuring safe, clear, and comfortable water. If the pH of your hot tub water falls below the ideal range, it can lead to corrosion of equipment, skin irritation, and reduced sanitizer efficiency. pH Plus helps restore the pH levels to their optimal range, keeping your water balanced and enjoyable.

Product Benefits:

  • Prevents Corrosion: Low pH levels can cause corrosion of essential hot tub components like heaters, filters, and plumbing. Using pH Plus ensures that your equipment is protected and remains in good working order.

  • Improves Bather Comfort: When pH levels are too low, hot tub water can become acidic, leading to skin irritation and burning eyes. Raising the pH with pH Plus helps keep the water comfortable for bathers.

  • Optimizes Sanitiser Effectiveness: Low pH can reduce the effectiveness of sanitisers like chlorine and bromine, leaving your water vulnerable to bacteria and other pathogens. Proper pH balance ensures your sanitizers work more efficiently, keeping the water clean and safe.

  • Maintains Clear Water: Low pH can cause the water to become cloudy and uninviting. By raising the pH, you can ensure your water stays clear and visually appealing.

Dosing Instructions:

  1. Test the Water: Before adding pH Plus, use a test kit or test strips to measure the pH levels of your hot tub water. The ideal pH range for hot tubs is between 7.2 and 7.8. If the pH is below this range, it’s time to add pH Plus.

  2. Calculate the Dosage: Based on your test results and the size of your hot tub, calculate the amount of pH Plus required to raise the pH to the desired level. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for accurate dosing.

  3. Add the pH Plus: Add the required amount of pH Plus to your hot tub water. If you are using a granular form, sprinkle it evenly over the water’s surface. For liquid forms, pour it slowly into the water while the jets are running to help with even distribution.

  4. Allow Circulation: Let the hot tub water circulate for several hours to allow the pH Plus to dissolve and evenly mix throughout the water.

  5. Retest the Water: After the water has circulated, retest the pH to ensure it has reached the desired range (7.2 to 7.8). If necessary, add more pH Plus in small increments until the desired pH level is achieved.

  6. Regular Maintenance: Regularly test your hot tub water to monitor pH levels, especially after adding chemicals or heavy use. Adjust the pH as needed to maintain a balanced water chemistry.

FAQs

What is a pH Increaser (Plus)?

A pH Increaser is used to raise the pH level in pool or spa water when it becomes too low.

Why is raising pH important?

Low pH can cause:

  • Corrosion of pool surfaces and equipment

  • Etching of plaster

  • Eye and skin irritation

  • Rapid sanitizer loss

Balancing pH helps protect pool infrastructure and maintain comfortable water.

What is the ideal pH range for pool or spa water?

The recommended range is 7.2 to 7.6.

How do I know if I need to use a pH Increaser?

Use test strips or a digital test kit. If your pH is below 7.2, you should add a pH Increaser.

How do I apply the pH Increaser?

Follow your product label, but general steps include:

  • Calculate the amount needed based on pool/spa volume

  • Pre-dissolve the product in a bucket / jug of water

  • Add to the pool or spa while the pump is running

  • Distribute evenly across the deep end or around the perimeter
Allow the water to circulate 30–60 minutes.

How long after adding pH Increase can I use the hot tub?

Typically 30 minutes to 1 hour, as long as the water has fully circulated and the pH has re-tested within the safe range. Check your product’s instructions for specifics.

Can I add too much pH Increaser?

Yes. Overdosing can push pH too high, resulting in:

  • Cloudy water

  • Scaling

  • Reduced sanitiser effectiveness
If pH goes too high, you may need a pH Reducer (Minus).

Will pH Increaser affect total alkalinity?

Yes, it can increase total alkalinity slightly. If alkalinity is already high, use smaller doses and test frequently.

Is pH Increaser safe to handle?

Yes, when used properly. Always:

  • Wear gloves and eye protection

  • Avoid inhaling dust

  • Store in a dry area, away from moisture

  • Keep out of the reach of children and pets

How often should I check pH levels?

You should test:

  • 2–3 times per week for pools

  • Before each use for hot tubs and spas

Test more often after heavy rain, high bather load, or chemical adjustments.
